Newsletter 2002

The Marconi Veterans Association

In earlier issues of this Newsletter we advised how our Association was set up. Just to refresh you, the MVA is a group of Veterans who have completed 25 years Service with a Marconi Company. An elected Committee working within a defined Constitution, carry out the day-to-day activities with a part time Secretary, Chairman, Vice Chairman and Treasurer. Committee meetings take place on a regular basis and a Re-union is arranged each year in the month of April where a President presides over a lunch attended by up to 260 Veterans.
Until recently, the MVA was sponsored by The Marconi Company (later Marconi plc) but now apart from a very small injection of cash by one of the Chelmsford based units, the MVA has to be self accounting. This puts an enormous strain on the Committee and unless we have financial assistance from our Veterans, we will not be able to continue after one further year, the full activities of our Association.
The MVA Committee therefore has requested that all Veterans be asked to pay an annual subscription of £5 starting on 1st January each year. A form requesting Veterans to forward this amount to our Secretary is appended on the last page of this Newsletter and it is hoped that all Veterans will agree this modest amount or more if you can afford it.
The major costs of MVA are in the salary of our part time Secretary, printing, postage and telephone plus the organisation of the Annual Re-union, typing assistance etc.
We are financially OK until early 2002 and although we will request assistance from local based units, we cannot be certain this will be forthcoming. Therefore we hope in order to keep the Association going, you will respond accordingly.
